shakin'

I am going away for the weekend to finally do something fun. My cousin just bought her first apartment, so I am going to check it out and then spend some time in the city with her. With that, I thought that I would recommend a weekend song for everyone. I've started listening to my Rooney cds again. They are so catchy and upbeat and a nice change from my melo music. Their self-titled album and newer album Calling the World are both amazing. Although it's hard to choose one song, you should listen to Shakin'. It's their classic song, and really defines them. You'll be tapping your toes, I promise.

Anyway, I will tell you all about my weekend when I get back. Hopefully I will get in some trouble and actually have something exciting to write about (but don't expect anything...haha). The most rebellious thing that I have done lately is graffiti something on a bathroom stall...although I've always wanted to do that! So it was an accomplishment :)

temptation adam

wow...so guess where I have been! My midterms are FINALLY done. What a relief. I slept until 12:30 today to make up for the lack of sleep that I've had in the past week, and pulled my laptop into bed with me to import some new cds that I haven't had time to listen to. My current obsession is Josh Ritter. He just makes me feel good. If you're going to listen, definitely try Temptation Adam or Right Moves. You won't be sorry.

Maybe now that I'm not inside studying all day I will have a little adventure. When I do, I'll be sure to tell you all about it! Until then, listen away and enjoy.

manhattan

I have had a popcorn skin stuck in my throat since yesterday afternoon. It hurts very much and is really uncomfortable, and I've tried everything to get it out. I guess I will just have to wait for it to pass. Why does this always happen to people?

I found out today that I am not going to be able to go to Paris in the spring (because I will be in exams when my dad is taking his trip). Howeverrrr, I am planning a trip to New York for the end of the school year (I am officially done May 5th). I can't wait....I am ready to get out of this city and get into a new one. In celebration of this, I thought that I would recommend the song Manhattan by Kings of Leon. I'm sure that you have all heard the song Sex on Fire by them, which is great, but this song is another good one off of their album Only By the Night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6BOO4G-jV4&feature=related

strange apparition

It's my spring break and all of my friends are home from university, which is nice! I'm excited for some social interaction...school has kept me busy long enough. I plan on going out, staying up late, and sleeping in past noon. screw studying- it can wait!

My new obsession is Beck. My brother has all of his cds, and I recently imported them onto my computer. So far, my favourite song is Strange Apparition from his album The Information. Listen to it...and go outside. Spring is near :)

up against the wall

I often ask myself if it's all worth it. I spend all of my time studying, trying so hard to earn good grades so that I can maintain my GPA and graduate from my program. I am constantly stressed to get things done on time, and often feel that I do not obtain a deserving mark for my work. I wonder why it is so important to memorize the time period and artist of renaissance paintings when I am enrolled in an architecture course, and get annoyed when students cram for exams the night before while I start weeks in advance. What's worse is that they usually get better marks than I do.

What am I doing this for? To graduate, wait 6 years to obtain my Architecture Liscence, and then become a workaholic? The architecture field is so time-consuming. Do I really want to be working all the time, getting home late and catching up on paper work on the weekends? What about a family- how will I care for them with a job that constantly demands my attention? Would I give up my job to start a family? I would certaintly want to, but then what would all of these years of stressing be for? All of these questions have led me to ask myself- is it all worth it?

This is exactly what I have been thinking of the past few months. I am so sick of working my ass off, and getting so little in return. Half of the time the professors aren't happy enough with the work that students submit, and yet they do nothing to help us improve. It's extremely frustrating. I realize that the time that I do work, I can obtain an income to provide for myself and my family, but does it require this much stress and time in order to get there?

I'm finally on school break (only for a week). I plan on doing little work and taking some time to relax. I found a mystery cd in my closet today- I have no idea who burnt it for me, but it was really good. A song that I especially loved was Up Against the Wall by Peter Bjorn & John. You have probably heard the song Young Folks by this band, which I am a little sick of but nonetheless liked when it first came out. Anyway, this song is really great, so give it a listen and please forgive me for this long post. It felt good to let it out.

penny on the train track

I'm studying...again. Just thought I'd give you a song to lighten up your weekend. Penny on the Train Track by Ben Kweller. Trust me- it will make you crave the summer time. One week until my school break...at which point I promise to write something more interresting!

fake empire

I received a package today in the mail from London. My friend Stefanie sent me two mix cds from school with music that I have never heard before and I absolutely love them. Mix cds are so great, because you either get a bunch of new tunes or discover that you are currently hooked on the same songs as someone else.

Anyway, a dominant artist on one of the cds is called The National. I had never heard these guys, but they are really good. This one song called Fake Empire is my favourite so far. Listen to it here: www.myspace.com/thenational and hopefully you like it!

no envy, no fear

I have a dilemma- there are so many concerts that I want to see in the next few months, but I can't afford them all, so I need to narrow down my choices. Here is what I have to choose from: Mates of State, Bloc Party, Kathleen Edwards, Ben Kweller, Lisa Hannigan, IllScarlett, Ray Lamontagne, Yann Tiersen, and Joshua Radin. What do I doooo? Any suggestions?

I want to see Joshua Radin for sure. I've recently fallen in love with him, especially his song No Envy, No Fear. The mandolin in it is absolutely beautiful, and his voice is so amazing. I can only imagine what he'd be like live...ahhh. The worst part is that his concert is on a wednesday, which means that I will need to beg someone to come with me (since most of my friends have classes every weekday morning). Other than that, I found out that I might be going to Paris in April. I am sooo excited! I've never been to Paris (except the airport on my way to Tunisia in Africa) and have always wanted to go. I also might take a trip down south once exams are over. I need to get out of this freaking -30 degree weather.

That's all for tonight. Here's the website- check it ouuuut. www.joshuaradin.com

band of horses

I had a pretty exciting weekend- a bunch of studying for my midterm (which was ridiculously hard) and writing a 7 page assignment that's due tomorrow. I have such a fascinating life.

I'm sure some of you have heard of Band Of Horses- but if you haven't, listen! There are really different, and unlike anything else on my playlist (except Fleet Foxes, which sound really similar but are also really good). Anyway, I can't choose a favourite song because they are all so good. So go to this website and give them all a listen: http://www.bandofhorses.com/
